Hi, guys! Happy Hump Day! So every Thursday I have Tech Club after school. This is a group of 5th and 6th graders who stay to learn something new, play fun games, and experience technology in a different way. Anyways- my school corporation has about 18 Spheros that we share between all of the schools, so I checked them out for a few weeks. What are Spheros? Check out their website and I promise you will want one. Last week, students learned how to connect the Spheros to iPads, use the Sphero app, and drive the little robots all around the school. I decided that this week I needed to spice up the mission, so I came up with the idea to create an obstacle course! I grabbed a ton of random items from the school (I had the custodians help me out. Thanks, Dave & Cindy! :D), and put them in 3 different piles for 3 different groups. SO WHAT NEXT? I put students in groups, had them draw for piles, handed out tape, and started the timer. Students had an hour to build their course and code their Sphero to successfully go through the entire course! We used the Tickle app to code the Spheros. It is easy to use and super kid friendly. One of my groups did not finish coding their Sphero, so we just stored their course in a safe place until the next Tech Club meeting. :) Until next time, Rachel |
